G5-optimized Firefox 1.0.7 released

Looking for nightly builds or optimized Firefox 1.5 beta builds? Get ‘em here.

Hey, it’s another Firefox release! The Mozilla group squeezes out another teensy update that addresses mostly security issues. The changelog:

  • Fix for a potential buffer overflow vulnerability when loading a hostname with all soft-hyphens
  • Fix to prevent URLs passed from external programs from being parsed by the shell (Linux only)
  • Fix to prevent a crash when loading a Proxy Auto-Config (PAC) script that uses an "eval" statement
  • Fix to restore InstallTrigger.getVersion() for Extension authors
  • Other stability and security fixes

I’ll keep building these as they release them, but I’ll probably be a day or so late as I need to wait for the source to be posted to the Mozilla FTP server. So those of you who have been sending me repeat emails, please stop.

Anyway, this isn’t an official build, I’m not responsible if you suddenly gain (or lose) super powers or your computer explodes, etc., etc. I’m sure you know the drill, but it needs to be said anyway just to be clear.

Download the G5-optimized Firefox 1.0.7 release (disabled) A newer version than this is now available

There’s also a Firefox-specific news feed available in case you really could care less (understandably) about anything else on this web site:

Do you know if anyone is building the stable releases (such as 1.0.7) optimized for G4? Furbism seems to only have nightly builds.

Dude, did you actually read this entry?

Yeah, actually, I did read the entry. I guess it's just me being stupid and missing something obvious, because I still can't see how asking if you knew of anyone building for the G4 was worthy of such scorn. Write me off as a stupid noob, I guess.

Sorry. I just got (and get) a bunch of email from people about these builds asking all kinds of questions (and sometimes being unbelievably rude) and I was kind of cranky. Didn't mean to take it out on you.

If you haven't seen anything on the Third Party / Unofficial Builds forum on Mozillazine, I'm not much more help. That's the only place I've seen optimized builds.

Thanks for your work. Is there some way to set a preference so that this firefox does not save a copy of by bookmarks file in my profiles folder every time I quit?

A definite improvement over standard FF. We Mac users desparately need a FF forum for Mac users. I can't get questions answered such as how does one load a plug-in into the browser?

Do you know of such a forum?

I agree with Thomas Casselman. I've recently become a little peeved with Safari, and have moved across to Firefox at work and at home. But there are little things I keep going back to Safari for (bookmark .Mac syning, native spell checking in web forms, etc...).
If only there was somewhere we could discuss these platform-specific issues... we could really give Safari a run for its money (and hopefully get Apple to invest more in its development).

Who is that super hot model in the bottom right corner? Lucky you if you know her. Anyway thanks for the good work kimosabi. Will be testing the G5 1.0.7 against iCab 3.0 352 beta.

Yes, mikey likes it!

http://fox.lazycat.info/ is a link where I recently found 7450 (G4) as well as 970 (G5) builds of 1.0.7. Don't let the Japanese scare you, these are English builds. There are these "no center click" builds but I have no idea what they are.

This build works excellently for me on my dual G5 2g. Cool icon. Great work and you have an interesting but not boring personal website. Thank you for your time.

Thank you for all your hard work. It really works much faster than the regular Firefox on my G5. I admire your altruism.

The 10.4.3 Mac OS X update has made screen redraws glitchy when scrolling - this is using the 1.0.7 G5 Firefox build. I've downloaded the build at http://fox.lazycat.info/ which seems to restore things (Firefox1.0.7_lzyc970MP.dmg). YMMV.
