Moving company reviews

PLEASE NOTE: If you post a review of a company, you must leave an email and your REAL name so I can confirm that you really are leaving a legitimate review. All reviews from now on that do not have an email and name attached to them will be deleted.

One thing that has kind of surprised me is how there doesn’t seem to be any resources online for Canadian moving company reviews. For an experience which often can end up being one of the more high-stress episodes in anyone’s life, you would think moving would be something people would research the crap out of.

(Note: I’m currently trying to find a Toronto-based moving company for a local move, so if you have any recommendations or companies to avoid, post ‘em in the comments, or email me. Thanks!)

Sure, there’s epinions.com’s list of moving companies, but it consists of mostly U.S. companies, and I don’t know how the quality differs between companies that have a continental presence (i.e. Atlas / Allied / North American / United Van Lines). I spent a bit of time digging through Usenet, which was a gigantic waste of time (quelle surprise), and also googling specific companies looking for reviews, but had no luck finding much. Even the trusty Canadian Better Business Bureau didn’t have a lot of information, and what was there was incomplete and sketchy at best.

Heck, there’s sites online which have reviews of ISPs, reviews of Web hosting companies, reviews of guitars and basses, even reviews of yarn for knitters - why no moving companies? Maybe my Google-Fu isn’t as merciless as I thought it was, or maybe it’s only me that thinks there should be reviews of stuff like this online…

Update - December 23rd, 2005

Seeing how this entry is the fourth listing for Google searches on moving company reviews I suppose I should post a quick update on who I ended up using.

For our move from Winnipeg to Toronto we went with AMJ Campbell. Their service was, in a word, underwhelming. Our stuff was over ten days late - it all didn’t even leave Winnipeg until seven days after their estimated delivery date.

It all arrived for the most part in one piece, but the fact that we had to do with an inflatable mattress, a yoga mat, and various bits of kitchen stuff for a total of over two weeks was pretty sad. We did end up getting reimbursed for the late time (around $600 off of our appr. $2800 moving bill) but that doesn’t make me want to use their services again in the future.

Once we got to Toronto we actually moved again to our present apartment, and that move was much, much smoother. We used a local company called Emerald Moving and Storage that were recommended to us by friends, and they were great.

I posted a bit about the move here. Overall it went really well, and I’d hire them if we ever moved again in the GTA.

Yet another update, Feb 27, 2008

It astounds me that people are still commenting on this entry, especially considering that the original post is over three years old. Turns out that this entry is the #1 Google result for moving company reviews Canada. Oh, that’s why.

I wanted to post an addendum as we moved (again) last March in the GTA. We ended up using Tippet Richardson based on a couple of word-of-mouth recommendations and they were very good.

(Aside: their web site is horrible, though - I keep getting their “you must have flash installed” landing page even though yes, I have flash installed. Turns out you only need flash to view a completely useless flash intro video. The above links past that into their non-flash web site.)

The initial estimate was done by a guy who literally breezed through our place in seemingly record time, but in the end their price was fairly comparable to what we had received from other companies.

On moving day, they sent out a massive truck with three guys who proceeded to pack everything from our apartment in equally speedy time, with no breakages or accidents. One of the guys was this short dude who could carry three completely full boxes of books in a single trip - very impressive.

All told the initial estimate was for six hours of move time, and the guys ended up finishing in under three. My one small quibble was that they charged us for some packing as there were some small bits and pieces that we forgot to pack initially — it would have been nice to have received a warning that there was going to be an extra charge.

Overall, though, big thumbs up.

I’m starting to wonder if I should set up a small discussion forum at this location - it seems like there is a lot of back and forth discussion here that’s getting lost in the sprawling comments thread. Hm.

I used Tom Trucker for my move and they were amazine - reasonably priced, treated my stuff like it was their own, and were just fabulous over all. Tom doesn't advertise - doesn't need to because he gets all of his business word-of-mouth (and now, word-of-blog?). His number is 416-698-7825.

Hi! Found your cool website via Google. I am trying to move back to beloved Canada in March '05 from the US. I have been speaking with AMJ Campbell, but I am not sure I want to book them. You mentioned in one article that you will be posting a review on AMJ, have you posted one yet? You are correct in that there is very little in the way of reviews on moving companies. So far it seems that any reviews I find are bad, except for the odd local move (which I am not doing). It is a rather daunting task to pick a moving company with so many horror stories. I would appreciate any info. Thanks! :-)

We are in the process of locating a moving company to move our household from Ontario to British Columbia.

Most of the quotes we have received try to confuse the per pound cost and then insurance sur-charges are a nightmare. The BBB list some information if there have been specific complaints against a company but be aware that a "name brand" mover might be operated by many independant movers.

Generally speaking the BBB registers complaints based on the location of the company. For instance, if the company you are using is listed as being located in B.C. and you are moving in Ontario the Ontario BBB won't have a listing. So, find out where the company is located and search for compaints in the province they operate from.

The cheapest quote we've received is from "Two Small Men With Big Hearts" but the BBB lists them as having complaints registered to them. A friend of mine used them and the sales broker under-estimated the load and my friend had to rent another truck to move the remainder of his load. The company would not reimburse him for the additional expense. The quote I received from this company was not on letterhead.

The best quote I've received was from Mountaineer Movers (aka. Great Canadian Van Lines) who are based in B.C. The sent me a detailed estimate and the price per pound was $.54 Many of the other companies were at least $.10 per pound more or utilized cwt (cost based on 100 lbs) and further confused the issue by giving an inflated cost then giving a 66% discount. One needed a calculator to figure out the cost per pound to compare apples to apples.

Good luck searching and I'd love to hear of any success stories.

BEWARE OF A-ABCAN MOVING & STORAGE LTD BASED OUT OF CALGARY, ALBERTA. We shipped our car and apartment contents from Edmonton to Halifax by this bottomfeeding Company. I was promised in writing that my belongings would be delivered by the time specified on the moving contract by Mr. Ed; the talking horse who talks out of his ass when he emasculates you and your family's very existence to fulfill his own parasitic needs. Mr. Ed uses fly-by-night truckers to transport your valued goods. Our car & belongings arrived 2 weeks after specified on the contract with no reimbursement for meals, transportation, cable utility payments, or even an apology for that matter. My wife who was 38 weeks pregnant at the time did not appreciate sleeping on the floor while we wondered where our belongings were. After demanding the phone number of the driver we found out he was heading to the states with our contents. As you can see this company is strictly amateur. I contacted the Better Business Bureau and all they could do is put a black mark against A-ABACN MOVING & STORAGE. There's compensation for you. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. collierscott@hotmail.com

I also find this all very surprising and confusing - you'd think more people would share such important and relevant information... 'will keep you posted on what I find!

For local Toronto moves it's mostly a crap-shoot. Try the listings at the back of NOW or eye and keep you expectations low. Most will get your stuff from point A to point B without much damage and somewhat (give or take half a day) on time. For cross-Canada & cross border moves stick with the major companies (Atlas, United, etc.). They might cost more but those are higher stress moves where too many things can go wrong and if they do you want to deal with a company that has a decent customer service and dispute resolution process. I used Moving Canada Systems (& their afiliate Transcontinetal) for a recent Toronto to New York move with horrible results. They were late at pick-up, sloppy packers with inappropriate materials, a whole day late to deliver and in the end unbelievably hostile & rude on the phone (when they answered which wasn't always the case). I would caution anyone against using either of those two companies. Though I didn't end up booking through them (and lived to regret it) I had a great experience with the Premiere (Atlas affiliated) agents and wish I had booked with them. My piece of advice: follow your instinct, not your wallet. The couple of hundred dollars you might save on larger moves are really not worth the stress & aggravation.

A definite company to avoid is Imove Solutions. They have an awesome website (which states they won a customer satisfaction award) but I got badly burned. They showed up on moving day with nothing that we agreed upon (ie smaller truck, no portable wardrobes, no furniture coverings etc). The drivers wanted full payment before they unloaded the truck even though I was told to pay approximately 50%. They refused to use a dolly even though they had one. On the day of move, it was impossible to get a hold of anyone at their office. What I did not realize is that the address they post on their website for their office does not exist.

Please do not use this company because they do not do business fairly by any means. However, unlike one of the previous comments, I have a few friend that went with the company "Two small men with big hearts" and they were really happy.

Like you I'm looking for a mover. We'rein the lower mainland of B.C. About the 2 Small Men, I came across the following on another site. It's scary out there!

http://www.discovervancouver.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4834

----------------------------------

DO NOT EVER HIRE TWO SMALL MEN WITH BIG HEARTS ( BURNABY VANCOUVER LOCATION). They were horrible, rude, quit on the job...they left two large pieces of furniture in the lobby of my apartment, and left!! They tried to charge me for an hour they didn't work.. When I called the company to complain, they disregarded my complaints, and flat out refused to do anything about it. They insisted on being paid the entire "charge". I refused, they took me to small claims and I ended up winning the entire case because tehy were caught lying in court, and failing to disclose the names of the movers so I could cross examine them. Not only did I not have to pay them a single penny for teh move, they had to pay me $300 in damages. It was an absolute nightmare. Also, they have a lot of complaints on the Better Business Bureau website.

BenjyPosted - 5/7/2005 9:16:50 AM

--------------------------------------------

Yes, avoid Two Small Men like the slimy, infectious plague that they are. Theirs is a criminal operation. They do uninsured moves, they lie endlessly, they ignore complaints (there's dozens of them lodged with the Better Business Bureau and other such organizations), they steal and destroy furniture, and they're a bunch of illiterate yahoos. Glen Buckler, the owner in Vancouver, has a medium-sized list of criminal convictions, and the office in Toronto is apparently run by brain-damaged chimpanzees. Good job, Jenn, on winning in court. I should have taken them to court when they botched my move, but it probably would have been more financial trouble than it was worth for me. Still, if more people would take them to court, they wouldn't be able to get away with their garbage so easily.
________________________________________________________

Do not use Canadian Movers either, they don't take care and bang your furniture around. Jesse Movers are sneaks, they will charge you hidden extras for time to get to your place and back and you end up arguing with them and in the end you pay just as much as any other mover. The best is Salmon Bros, professional and great job each time.

I have a complaint against All Budget Movers based somewhere in New Westminster. They advertise in the Province Newspaper and use two cell telephone numbers. I hired them to move a computer cabinet, hard drive and a monitor in Burnaby to my apartment 7 km's away. When the cabinet arrived it was all bent out of kilter, sits on an angle, with most of the screws and bolts broken away from the unit. It is a horrible mess. The only thing he could say about the unit that it was a piece of junk ( paid $800.00). There was a screaming match with him along with his two co-workers so I refused to pay him his $l30.00 until the cabinet was repaired. He called me once at 8:30P.M. in the evening to come over and I said no ( I am a lady living by myself) and I politely told him to find somebody that has a knowledge about cabinets should be repairing it.I have not heard from him since I probably won't hear from him again. Be aware of this company and don't use them.

Two Small Men with Big hearts are horrible.

They have screwed us over again and again on one move from London, ON to Vancouver BC.

They keep changing the date of arrival saying that what has happened is not their fault.
I keep getting conflicting messages.
I talked to a friend of mine out here who is a trucker and he says they are a nightmare, as we are finding out.

WARNING: DO NOT USE TWO SMALL MEN WITH BIG HEARTS FOR YOUR MOVE

Move from VANCOUVER (SURREY) to TORONTO (LONDON)

I recommend against using Noble Moving Services Inc. because they did not respond to the DAMAGED and LOST personal items. The charge was very cheap ($0.55/lb) but the problem is that you're not actually dealing with 1 company, you're dealing with a seperate company doing the Vancouver pickup (Vega Line), another company doing the cross-country shipping and finally yet another company doing the local Toronto delivery (Transcontinental). Somewhere along the way some of my goods were damaged and others lost - this is certainly understandable for a cheap long-distance move, but the company (companies ?) didn't even respond to my filed claims.

In summary, if you see a cheap cheap quote, always remember that you get what you pay for. Good Luck.

I used Imove Solutions at 600 Bay Street in Toronto. They sent a small truck when I ordered a large truck and only moved a percentage of my goods. Was forced to pay up front and sign contract. I had to rent a truck the following day to pick up the rest of my goods.

DO NOT USE THEM.

September 27 2005
We moved from Ontario to British Columbia in September. We booked our move with Noble Moving Inc
because they responded to all my questions quickly and made me feel easy about the stressful move. I looked online for any feedback of a rating site for movers but found none. I was confident in my choice, and now only have regret. The movers showed up and packed our home into a truck. I was told they would pack the larger items at no extra charge. Once in BC we recieved only a quater of our goods and had to wait another 3 weeks to recieve the rest. And they are not in good shape. Communication with noble went down the hole after they recieved our large certified check, and calls to the whereabouts of our belongings took day of me hassling them to find out. The manager never called us back, we always had to call there. On hold for long periods of time and it was apparent they could not be bothered with our disatisfaction. I was always told that someone would get back to me after they talked tot he owner and nothing. The manager yelled and hung up on me the last time we spoke. After 3 weeks of not having our goods, kids sleeping on the floor and work stalled due to lack of personal computer, broken furniture and missing items and permanant marker on our suposedly packed items, I really dont think I want anyone else to have the same experience. I wish there were a site for Canadians to rate our moving companies as we are obligated by contracts they should be held to honor theirs. Now the question is what do we do now?

If it's Toronto locals you are looking for, i found these guys in a Mississauga YellowPages, but they're sales office is based in Cambridge.

Good Ol' Boys Moving & Storage

They are part of an independant moving company association, which means that they are made up of several different small companies that help each other out... you can't get more canadian than that!

We hired Good Ol' Boys, but some nice young men who also called themselves "CityStar Moving" (the toronto guys for good ol' boys)

They did a great job, they weren't the quickest, but nothing was damaged, and they just kept working. i had to buy them lunch, just so they would take a break!!! lol i highly recommend calling.

i live in calgary alberta, i have used a company called "cowtown moovers" on different occasions to move or deliver various items for me for the past four years. such as antiques, sofas, dining room suites, bedroom suites, garage items etc.
i am 80 years young, and i know good people when i meet them. the people at cowtown moovers know how to move household goods. they are polite, with a confident 'no bull' attitude.
if you live in calgary & want to hire some 'mamby pamby' moving company, go ahead.
i, on the other hand, will continiue to hire "cowtown moovers", and will continiue to refer them. they have never wronged me, and judging from there character, i know they never will. thank you,

Hello, I'm from Quebec city and I'm moving to BC by February. I was looking for references about Capitalmoving, a Toronto based company which provided us with a good quote (.55$/pound) and no hidden fees, fuel surcharge,.. like others did. Does someone ever used their services or heard about them? You can send me a e-mail at doual@hotmail.com if you have any comments or suggestions.

I have read everyone comment and I believe I can be of assitance to al of you. I have worked in the moving industry for the last 8 yrs and I pretty much know the ins and outs.

In regards to Good ol boys moving. They are a good company and will do a good job.

I can also reccomend Tender Touch Moving. Now there is a company that takes great pride in what they do. They will shrink wrap and pad all of your furniture and treat it has there own. Every employee there is trained properly even if they have previous expreience.

Two Small Men with Big Hearts Moving. They have pros and cons. Each office is Independtly owned but only one man Owns the Two Small Men name and he is in the Toronto Location.
Dont bother taking additonal insurance because you still wont get your money from them.
The people who work in the offices are all idiots but you need to give some credit to certain movers who work there. Believe it or not there are maybe 4 maybe 5 guys that are good workers and polite. The rest are either alcoholics or druggys. Watch out!!!!

Dinos Movers are a smaller company, hear good things about them but havent personally used them.
I hope I was some help to you people out there.

Here are so me wors of wisdom. Big doesnt mean better. I would stay away from franchies. It is the small medium companies that take pride in your belongings and in you

Allow me to offer a different perspective...

I work in the offices of one of the 5 national Van Lines. When I refer to "van line" I am speaking about those brand names that everyone is familiar with (United, Mayflower, Atlas, Allied, and North American)

It is correct to state you will pay more moving with a van Line affiliated mover, but as many on this discussion board have learned the hard way, in moving, you get what you pay for more often than not. When you are entrusting all of your prized possessions to a company that will move you across town or across the country, you need to feel comfortable. With a van Line affiliated mover you will get the ACCOUNTABILITY you deserve. Questions will not go unanswered, concerns will not go unresolved.

You need to be comfortable with the people you are trusting with all of your goods. Please, I cannot stress enough, investigate the organization before you move with them. Check with the BBB, check references, do your homework. While it is normal in moving to pay for the services at the time of delivery, you should not be expected to pay a deposit before they start. If something doesnt sound right to you- chances are it isnt.

Good Luck!

I hope everyone has a great move.

It got to the point were i didn't care what the cost was going to be, I just wanted them to finish and leave!! Now we are unpacking and I am worried if any thing is broken or missing... I will let you know if there is.

People of Winnipeg, be forewarned. Globe Moving is run by persons quite willing to take your money, but do NOT take responsibility for themselves or their employees. During my move about 2 months ago, My first worry was that 2 of the three employees that showed up were no older than 18 and their inexperience soon showed. They tried reefing my 2500.00 leather couch through a dooorway and ended up putting a horse-shoe size rip in an attached seat cushion. The foreman told me not to worry, I'd be covered 100%. They sent a leather repair person over, who could not guarantee a match, but said could do a good job. The accounts manager called me back and said the couch could be repaired for 800.00 and Globe was prepared to to give me 95.00 towards it. After much complaining, they upped it to about 300.00 and it became quite clear at this point they would not take responsibility for their incompetent employees. We paid the rest of the money out of our own pocket, the leather used to repair the couch was not a perfect match, and now I have a 4,000.00 couch and loveseat that look as if theywere purchased at a Salvation Army store. There were other minor problems with damage incurred, but ruining a 4,000.00 couch and loveseat set without even close to proper compensation, as a result of incompetent employees shows the integrity of this company - there is none. Be forewarned.

I have read all your comments and I can offer some advice on local Calgary movers. I had a very bad experience with "Cheap Charlies". They misquoted me and when it came time to move I did not have enough money to pay. The owner told his movers to drive the truck until the money ran out then dump my stuff on the side of the road. Thank goodness the workers were half decent people who fudged the invoice for me. I highly, highly recommend Bob Hanson's Moving. His business is generated by word of mouth. You can reach him at (403) 560-1340. They don't insure local moves and you make get a few bruises but they treat you with respect from start to finish.

What I'm really looking for is some information on moving from Calgary, AB to London, ON. I am moving quickly and trying to find a "You pack - We move" type operation that is reputable and reasonable in cost. If anyone can offer some advice, guidance or assistance I would be greatly indebted. You can reach me via email at classic_cue_tee@hotmail.com

Thanks for your time and help.

I used Countrywide Van Lines. Absolutely the worse service ever. They are great when taking the deposit and picking up your shipment, but once they are in route... they don't tell you anything that is going on. Their dispatcher literally said he didn't care if the service was bad. They have your stuff and they just get to you when they get to you and it's your tough luck if they come a few days later than they told you. Unbelievable....

You really take your chances with moving companies, no matter who they are. Accountability is good. If they were realiable, they would not need to be held accountable. The customer plays a large role in how the move turns out, organization and control is key. The better you have things planned, and items to be moved ready to go, the day should go well. Keep in mind that, weather, traffic, act of god,or just something unforseen, may turn your day into a big mound of dung. Deal with it. On move day, if you dont like the way the movers look, smell, act, or talk, approach them before they get to far into the move and politly ask, "Are you guys set and ready to get this done?" they may just be tired from the previous days move,... Or if something strikes you as wrong, ie: The movers look or smell of booze, or drugs, dont take a chance, just kick them the hell out. Presuming all is well, listen to how they talk. Are they confdent, do they go room to room and formulate a plan as to what they put on the truck first and what is to follow? do they have mats to put on your floors? do they communicate with each other when they move somthing, ie: "Watch out for that hand rail, be carfull of that first step" etc. There are so many things to watch for when hiring movers i dont know what else to say, "U pays yer muny, ya takes yur chances!" look deep on the intenet for moving polices, and some kind of codes of conduct regarding movers, and don't stop looking, even if you have found your answers, dig further, there may be some thing you forgot to ask! don't let them control you, however don't be to controling over them they dont care if they break somthing if your a nag or distracting, the insurance will cover it. {Right} from what i have read no moving company can legaly ask for a diposit, or ask for money before the job is complete. They cannot raise the price after the job is done, unless the circumstance requires it. Dont bull%$#& them cause they may try to bull^%$# you. Like i have mentioned, if anything about the movers or the way the move is progressing, or the way the move has ended, call the movers office. If they tell you to "Get stuffed" call the police, tell them your concerns, tell the cops whatever you have to to get them to respond. Dont tell the movers know you called the cops let them find out on there own if they got nothing to hide then you all should be able to formulate a solution. Only resort to this action if absolutly nessary. If they want to play hardball, you can too. I truly hope your move goes well, and don,t lose control on move day!!!!!!! later.

I moved from Grande Prairie, AB to Barrie,ON last year and used AMJ CAMPBELL....Service was good until the company came to deliver. The estimate that was given was almost double by the time they delivered. According to their contract if their original estimate was too low they are to advise you at origin that the cost is in excess of 110%. I never recieved any phone call saying that anything was different then estimated, but 1 hour before delivery the driver calls and says that I owe almost double the estimated price.
I dealt with the office in Medicine Hat, AB and with Atlas' head office customer service (AMJ is a subcompany). After an hour on the phone they agreed to me paying only the estimated price PLUS 10%. I paid in full that day.
One year later I get a registered letter stating that my file is being sent to collections unless I pay them $700.
I had not recieved any other bill stating I owed them any money (they said the had sent 3 previous letters, which I found kind of funny since they moved my stuff to my current address), nor did I recieve a phone call. The matter is still in negotiation.

Sorry for the length, watch out for hidden costs and get everything in writing.

I would strongly advise against AMJ Campbell: used them a couple of years ago for a move from Toronto (within Ontario).

Since my load was quite small and since the driveway was tricky, they promised to send a small cube van...but sent a huge truck.

As a result, they ended up having to park in the driveway and cart everything 2x as far...had to move the truck everytime someone wanted in (busy building), didn't use the floor protectors that were in the contract... damaged my desk...then charged me for 2 extra hours of time (even though the reason it took so long was that they had sent the wrong truck).

I eventually got some money back but they were abolutely horrible to me on the phone, email etc. during the process. The worst experience I have ever had with a Canadian company.

We booked Two Small Men with Big Hearts to move us from Vancouver to Calgary and had an EXTREMELY BAD experience. They were late on the pick up (they kept moving the date out). Once they did pick it up, they told us we would have our shipment in 3 - 5 days. We got it a MONTH later. In the process of trying to get resolution on the delay (to get any time commitment on when they would deliver) we went through many phone calls and employees, to no avail. Eventually, we had to register a complaint with the BBB and send a letter to the CEO before we got a date for delivery.

In order to FINALLY get our stuff back from them, we ended up paying 50% more per pound than the original estimate. That was the only way they would deliver our furniture. We felt completely abused. They definitely did not honour the agreement and commitments they made with us: not in price, timing, or in terms of notice period.

Best case: it was all just a unfortunate and horrendous exception to their normal business operations and they were just exceptionally incompetent in our case, or
Worst Case: they are a dishonest organization that deliberately scams people into booking with them by promising a low rate (which they have no intention of honouring). No matter which case it was, and only this company knows for sure, my recommendation is to steer clear of them

One other note: Each booking office is a franchise, and the dispatch office is located in Toronto. They did not appear to communicate with one another. In fact it was most often the case that the employee with whom we were speaking either did not have the authority or the knowledge to help us, and continued promises to have higher ups call us back were broken. We had to continually call them. It seemed to us that they used this as a technique to keep us in the air and to EVADE their commitments.

Note: I have previously moved from Vancouver to Toronto, Toronto to Charlotte, NC, and Charlotte to Vancouver using ALLIED and 3 of their local agents. ALLIED IS WONDERFUL. The moving coordinator in each of these moves was excellent. When things went wrong (i.e. they forgot my piano in Charlotte), which they almost always do in any move, they took OWNERSHIP and fixed it, which is all one can ask for. They are, of course, more expensive than Two Small Men with Big Hearts.

I thought because this is a short-haul move, it would be ok to pay a little less. Don’t make the same mistake - you get what you pay for.

Sincerely
S.Moody

I went with Quick Boys Moving & Storage Inc and i have to say please stay away from them, We booked over a month in advance and made sure we told them on many occassions that we had a large 3 story house we would be moving, 10 hours later they didnt have everything loaded and the truck was full- we were told they would have to come back for it charging us for the extra travel ect. we declined and rented a uhaul truck to finish it up.

Over half of our stuff was damaged and the movers were more interested talking on their cell phones then doing work. We insured and one of the major items that was damaged they took and its been over a month and still no item returned fixed or paid for ..

STAY AWAY FROM Quick Boys Moving & Storage Inc

Hi,

I am moving from Toronto to Vancouver next month and was wondering if anyone has any info about/experience with any of the following companies:
-Allied (Markham office)
-Lamb 2000 Moving (United affiliate)
-Premiere Van Lines (Mississauga office--Atlas affiliate)
--AMJ Campbell (Toronto East--Markham)
--KMS Van Lines and Royal Moving and Storage (Atlas affiliate)

Since there are many different combinations of crews and drivers, I know it's hard to generalize, but I'd appreciate hearing your opinions. You're right about it being difficult to find information about Canadian moving companies.

Thanks.

I used Munden's Moving a year ago when I moved from Halifax to Toronto. I shipped 28 boxes and 3 extra large suitcases with them for just under $600. They arrived for pick up exactly on time, gave an itemized receipt and numbered every piece. They had courteous, strapping young men to move everything down a two-storey walkup into a proper van. They not only delivered everything to Toronto in the time they said they would, they also carried 7 boxes of books up to the 3rd floor in the house! Great rates and fantastic service (mundensmoving.@hfx.eastlink.ca)- too bad they only move as far east as Ontario (and back to Halifax and stops in between), as I now need a reliable, inexpensive mover to take my boxes and suitcases to Victoria BC. After reading all the emails I am quite worried about finding anyone else as good as Munden's! Any more suggestions?

Cheers,
:)Maddie

Does anybody have experience with Multicities or Art moving ?

Although they are not as cheap as some of the companies listed in this "moving story", they seem to be professional.

Thanks, Jories

Regarding Multicities: We were almost going to go with this company which was brokered through Yellow Moving and Storage. When their Mississauga office said they'd have to call their head office in Montreal to get their insurance policy number, I called their Montreal office and they gave me a policy number. When I called the insurance company and checked on the policy number, they told me the policy is lapsed since 2003. They still haven't provided me with any insurance information.
Plus the BBB and Canadian Movers Association has a number of complaints about Multicities. Check out the Canadian Movers Association website www.mover.net for a list of reputable movers.

I BOOKED THE JOB FOR THE 30TH AND THEY CALLED TO CONFERM 4 TIMES SAYING THEY HAD ME BOOKED FOR WRONG MONTH, THEN THE 1ST, THEN THE 27TH AND FINALLY THE 30TH THEY SHOWED UP WITH THE WRONG SIZE TRUCK, WRONG NUMBER OF GUYS, AFTER 2 HOURS ONE GUY ASKED FOR HIS PAY AND LEFT. THEY GOT A REPLACEMENT FOR HIM AND 1HOUR AFTER THAT THE OTHER GUY LEFT. THE OWNER 'SONI' MADE AMMENDS BY GIVING A DISCOUNT, BUT THE HASSEL THROUGHOUT THE MOVE WAS STRESSFULL AS IS. SONI EXPLAINED THAT THE OFFICE GIRL IS HIS ON AGAIN OFF AGAIN WIFE WHO HAS M.S. WHICH AFFECTS HER JUDGEMENT AND CO-ORDINATION, THATS WHY THE SCREWUP ON THE DAYS. Again, don't go with Two Small Men. They are cheaper, but they are awful. My brother had an dreadful move in 2005 across country. 3 days late in pick up and two weeks late on arrival.

My x-c adventure with them was hit/miss. The start was amazing, they arrived early, and I dealt with two very nice guys in my home. The sales contact screwed me on price, his original quote per lb was off. But whatever. My items were two weeks behind, and I would say that although unforeseen circumstances do happen, at least a moving company should be proactive with their customers and let them know. This is what you pay for - peace of mind and communicative staff.

If you don't have patience and have a stressful looking move, stay away from Two Small Men.

I just moved on Saturday July 8, 2006 from London Ontario to Toronto. I booked with Good 'ol boys. They are a company from Cambridge but they sent two guys from their subsidiary City Star Moving in Toronto. I have to tell you, I was completely impressed with their service. I called AMJ Campbell and they quoted me $1300 for my one bedroom apartment....YIKES! Good ol boys sent two guys who showed up 1/2 hour early, worked really hard and fast and didn't complain even though it was really hot. They charged me $75/hr but I think that it should have been $85 and the original guy who took the order gave me the wrong quote but he stuck to it. The whole move cost me under $700. I would highly recommend these guys! I booked them for my move because of the great reviews that I read on the internet. Apparently they also do long distance moves.

Word of advise ...Hide any and all valuables.
We moved in April using Tippert-Richardson in Toronto.

They showed up smelling of booze and body odour. The move went well , but , 3 months later when I went looking for some jewerly which was in my dress it was gone and in further inspection more was missing. ( stuff I did not wear regularly , they knew what to take ).

They also took off before the house was empty without letting us know , did not cover the antique furniture during the move out of the house and left a couple of hole in the drywall.

The company has a clause which limits there resposibilty for 3 DAYS after your move and refused to help out.

SO BEWARE OF TIPPERT-RICHARDSON THE FRIENDLY MOVER IN TORONTO.---but not the cheap one!!!!
last time we use them!!
very pissed off that the province has no standard for such a stressful time in ones life.

If you are looking for reviews on GTA (Canadian) home repair, improvement, moving, storage etc companies try www.homestars.ca. Most companies that are rated are negative reviews, probably because people will complain more about a bad company than praise a good one. Gives good information, stopped us from going with a bad moving company.

When I moved from Winnipeg to TX I hired big "reputable" companies. It's been a total nightmare - 3 weeks have passed since the agreed delivery date and they don't know where my shipment is, when it left winnipeg (if it did at all) or when it will arrive in TX (if ever). They have told me lies: "it's already in TX" but can't offer me ANY information whatsoever about my shiptment. DO NOT HIRE!
my advice: move yourself. hire extra hands but move yourself.

We moved from Calgary to Sylvan Lake and used Cowtown Moovers. We found them to be very professional and efficient in the way that they handled our furniture and household items. They were punctual, with very little or no damage (we haven’t checked over everything yet) completed our move in a reasonable amount of time considering the amount of stuff we had and the distance traveled. We would give them our recommendation. Cowtown Moovers no complaints. Thank you.

My husband and I moved from our apartment here in Toronto to the house we just bought (6 subway stops away) 6 weeks ago. We used a company called ATLAS MOVING & STORAGE. Be aware that there is a large company called Atlas Moving - not these folks. ATLAS MOVING & STORAGE is a smaller company with a .ca web address.

They were nice to deal with initially but we never actually were able to speak to someone. I didn't think much of this at the booking time. It was all done through voicemail.

On the moving day they showed up 3 hours late and had already been moving other people for 12 hours - so the guys were beat. They were so tired at the end of the move that they didn't even want to move our box spring upstairs to the bedroom. They gouged our stairs and had a mysterious charge on the invoice.

When I called to rectify the situation again I could not speak to anyone. I was returned a message of a rep to contact whose cell was not ever turned on even during the times I was told I could reach him. I went back to the main office, again voicemail and no one called me back from then on in no matter how many messages I left. I was not rude in my approach to them in fact I own my own small business and know that it is important to approach these matters with professionalism. So the mysterious charge never explained, no comment on the damage and no person to ever speak with regarding my concerns.

I would not hire these people again.

I used Apartment Movers in Calgary. Bad move. They were rude and abrasive and damaged more than one item of expensive furniture beyond the point of touch up. I had specifically asked them to be careful with a few of the items. In the hallway of my new place I heard one mover say to the other "just use a black maker... thats what __ used to do". Extremely disappointing and costly. I know there will be no reprecussions for their action except to alert other people not to use them.

Has anyone had any dealings with Vancity Movers? I am moving from Vancouver to Toronto. They seem conscientious, have given me a fixed quote of $2,200 for a small 1 bedroom apt.

Any recommendations for BC based long distance movers? Is it possible to do such a move happily for under $2,000? seems like such a lot of dough...

I just moved from Toronto to Vancouver with a company called Capital Moving located in Toronto, ON. My move was not big in size but also not small (2940 Lbs). Everything together came to a total of under $2000.00 including pick-up and delivery.
The pick-up guys were great, delivery crew was fabolous and the goods arrived in the time frame that was originally quoted. The service in both Toronto and Vancouver offices were great and I don't have a bad word to say about this company. If anyone needs a good mover, just log onto www.capitalmoving.ca and they will contact you from there.

Don't use Capital Moving! I just moved from ON to AB, and they lost two major pieces of furniture and damaged the hell out of a brand new couch.
In addition, they added a $150 "Warehouse Handling Fee" that I was never told about, and never agreed to.

I fully documented the above issues (incl. photos of the couch) in a damage/loss claim within 10days, as per the contract agreement. My claim was made on SEPT 10, 2006.
The company did not respond for 18 days! And, yes, I was persistently on their backs.
I got extra insurance through them, and they will still did not REPAIR or REPLACE of any of the damaged/lost items. The contract says they have to, but they won't.

I am missing two seats and am now in possession of severly damaged couch....oh, it's missing two legs too. Pick another mover. Capital Moving (yes, .ca) is didn't cut it for me. I wouldn't use them again. VERNO.

Some of you reading this might be interested in coming over to www.MovingScam.com, a consumer advocacy website on moving where I am a long-time moderator. Click on the "Messageboard" button and you'll see how our volunteers both in and out of the industry answer questions round the clock. One volunteer works for a United agent in Toronto ("Fred0844") and I think he knows the Canadian moving industry pretty well. Incidentally, I agree with everyone that there aren't many reliable websites for reviews of moving companies. We are trying to remedy that on MovingScam.com and we actually have a long thread on U.S. companies at http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8038 Maybe we should start one on Canadian companies??

I just left my job at calgary moving company due to lack of management. People beleive me... you take your chances with moving companies. Lack of insurance, a new guy every second day, everyone thinks their the leader because "THE LEADER" stands around like he has a pickle in his ass. If they do a good job and you leave them a cash tip, pay each one individually, because the driver or the one doing the bill, will keep it all to himself. If your thinking of getting into the moving industry, do the work yourself as a owner/operator be on sight at the move to ensure your business is above standards, be honest and forthwrite and make a good name for your self. There are to many "punk" companies out there that ruin it for guys looking for honest work, and for customers looking for honest movers...

I strongly advise not using "Adrian The Mover". I hired them to load a rental truck. They were nearly two hours late, creating serious problems for me; they scratched and damaged several pieces of good furniture; a new coil of rope provided to secure the load was taken but I discovered later it was not used and nowhere to be found; and they insisted on being paid in cash, which I was not told of ahead of time nor was I prepared to do so (that created further delays for me). All in all, my opinion is that they are unreliable, dishonest and totally uncaring.

Before I begin my own story, I want to thank “Neil Bruce Lee” who is hosting this site. Although warnings about so and so company are highly useful, I found the comments about the few success stories to be lacking. Details about special fees, how much weight was charged (at what rate) would have been helpful. In addition, Emma’s comment (12/21/05) about Tender Touch Moving is probably true. However, when I called Tender Touch Moving and spoke with Maria (the president of the Co?) and told her about my moving plans, she replied she would call back for a quote. But never called back, and I could only leave messages afterwards. The upside about Tender Touch Moving is that I found my moving company (Great Canadian Van Lines) on their website.

(My Story)
I recently made a successful move in December 2006 with “Great Canadian Van Lines” from Montreal, Quebec to Calgary, Alberta. Cori Livingstone (GCVL) gave me an estimate for my 1 BDRM (3000–3500 lbs) and vehicle to be shipped to Calgary. Moreover, she was courteous and professional. Remember, any extra fees (elevator, distance to truck, 2nd location fee etc) included in the estimate will not necessarily be included in the final bill – they only charge what they actually move in the end. But it’s your responsibility to follow-up. In addition, I boxed my own personal goods (electronics, books, house ware etc). But I left the big items (Mattress, Dresser, Table, Loveseat etc) to the professionals. Advice regarding boxing things yourself – each box should have a manageable weight. If you can’t lift the boxed item yourself, don’t expect the mover to be happy about moving the boxes for you. I learned paper and water are considered by movers to be heavy items in their line of work. In addition, making arrangements regarding parking the night before could make things easier on the moving day – block off parking space directly facing the building entrance to allow easy access for loading (cost saving). The Montreal pickup took less than three hours without incident. After seven days they arrived in Calgary on schedule, and delivered everything without damage. Remember, they expect to be paid when they arrive at the final destination – paid prior to offloading your goods.

As far as I can ascertain, GCVL has agents from Coast to Coast. During my move, I met with four separate companies (agents) working for GCVL in the following capacity:
-“Déménagement GO International” (www.go-intl.ca) – Jacques came to do a visual inspection of my Apt for GCVL, and is GCVL’s local agent in Quebec.
-“Burlington Movers” (www.burlingtonmovers.ca) – Donna was my contact person for the East Coast, and GCVL’s local agent in Ontario.
-“Provincial Moving” (www.provincialmoving.com) – Nijjar was the driver of the truck, and his company is based in Edmonton, Alberta.
-“Searail” (www.searail.ca) – Company responsible for shipping my vehicle.
-“Great Canadian Van Lines” (www.greatcanadianvanlines.com) – Cori is responsible for making all the above arrangements.

(My Details)
-1 BDRM at 2700lbs ($0.58/lb – rate is determined by moving distance), which does not include extra fees & taxes.
-Expect to pay approximately $2500 (fees and taxes inclusive) for a 2700lb move.
-Expect to pay an additional $1000 (fees and taxes inclusive) for shipping a compact sized vehicle.

(Some Advice)
-Do your homework – check the BBB & CAM (Canada’s Trade Assoc. for Movers) RE: your moving company.
-Moving rates depend on moving distance, and peak and off-peak seasons.
-Does not hurt to offer the movers free breakfast – the sooner they are full the sooner they have the energy to get moving.
-Return to BeatnikPad to give a review of your experience and help out the next person.

DO NOT USE BURLINGTON MOVERS!!! Please save yourself the aggravation.

Even though, they advertise themselves as a professional and experienced company, their movers use poor judgment and the owner does not take responsibility for damages his staff causes.

To avoid extra effort they decided to roll up my expensive spring mattress, tie it up with moving straps and shoved it through my stair case. That decision not only ruined my mattress, voided my mattress warranty, but it damaged my wooden stairs railing. When the owner became involved, he excused his staff as that being the only way to bring the mattress upstairs, even though there is plenty of room to move it flat. In regards to the railing, he requested that I pay for the repairs myself and he would have one of his guys fix for me. That was totally unacceptable to me, as what happened was not an accident, but a display of poor judgement by this moving company’s staff.

If you do not want to deal with an owner of a company that does not understand civic responsibility and customer service, choose another company. Burlington Movers has had a number of unresolved complaints with the BBB for a resason. I did not check this before hand. I wish I did.

I used a local Allied mover (Quality Movers out of Delta, BC) to move from BC to Ontario. The movers were very friendly and cordial and did an excellent job moving my furniture. There is definitely a premium price for using a large company but the customer service was excellent. I was allocated a customer service contact who kept me abreast of the status of my furniture delivery at all times and my furniture was delivered within the estimated time of 7-18 days for a cross-country move.

It's nice to finally find a blog reviewing CDN movers. I'm moving from Niagara to Calgary in 3 months and after receving estimates from 6 different companies I'm still unsure of which one to choose. I think I've narrowed it to North America (Niagara Moving & Storage) and AMJ Campbell. Does anyone have an opinion on either or tips regarding Fine Print of their contracts?

Hey Shawn,
Surely you would not want to go with AMJ Campbell!
Did you not read the original author's blog update (at the very top)? Not good. Also read posts #31 and #32 (both negative). And this: http://www.homestars.ca/AMJ_Campbell-C18754-listing_reviews.aspx#cratings

I've not read anything about Niagara Moving & Storage. To help make an informed decision about Canadian movers, read the articles on this site: http://www.mover.net/ (they also have a list of CAM certified movers)

For those planning to move from or within the Toronto area, you might want to check out a similar thread about Toronto moving companies on Joey deVilla's blog: http://accordionguy.blogware.com/blog/_archives/2005/6/27/977715.html

I'm moving soon within Toronto, I might go with Tender Touch since they're CAM certified and have got a number of good reviews online.

Good luck, everyone! :)

hey guys, just came across this post about movers in Toronto and noticed our company name mentioned. Could you please send us more info about the move completed for you to feedback@imovecanada.com We've encountered some legal issues with another mover operating under imove solutions and had them forfeit the name as iMove(imove canada) trademark belongs to iMove World Group. That company has switched its name since and has also caused some confusion with BBB. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Great site and very useful!
Here's one for the books. I'm moving from Victoria to Ontario and was almost ready to sign up with an outfit called All Canada Moving, based in Calgary until the salesman I dealt with in the Calgary office told me they don't take Visa because people can put charges on their Visa and then cancel it the next day (hello? You'd have my furniture, remember?) He expected me to transfer $750 as a deposit to his personal account in Calgary! Can you believe it? When I asked why, he said it was because he lived near the bank! When I balked, he gave me the number of the owner in Nanaimo (of course I had only his word that he was the owner in Nanaimo) who told me that if I was more comfortable transferring the money to their business account, that could be arranged. All this with nothing but a faxed estimate and his word they're honest! Sheesh. They must think people are morons. I have one word for people shopping for movers: BEWARE!

I moved from Vancouver to Toronto via Great Canadian and everything worked out fine. The guys in BC were fantastic. They were on time and aside from one peice a bit of furniture damage everything was accounted for. Overall I would say they are an honest company. Be wary of giving deposits. Good moving companys require small deposits at most.

Since being in Toronto I've noticed you really have to be careful here. More scam artists. I'm now looking for a local mover and I've been dealing with total creeps so far. I'm getting estimates that are double what it took to load/unload on the previous cross country move (the loading and unloading part) Either people in Toronto are lazy or the Ontario air makes loading stuff twice as hard as in Vancouver.

Moving is such a dirty industry and its too bad. I'm about to rent a truck and do it myself.

My first mistake was chosing Internic Moving for moving my household belongings from Texas to Québec. Later I learned the actual mover was Action Moving and Storage.

First of all, I paid a deposit to Internic Moving, which included the custom clearance fee. The agreement I signed was with Internic Moving and I stayed in touch with its representatives by e-mail.

On April 5, I called the dispatcher at Internic Moving to give my local phone number in Montreal again. He called me the next day to say that my shipment would arrive during the weekend of April 9.

Before I had my goods delivered on April 26, Teri Diodati, from Action Moving and Storage, forced me to make an "extra" payment as follows:
1. Custom clearance fee
2. Redelivery fee
3. One full month storage fee
4. Initial deposit, revisited

Did I write I had already paid the clearance fee? The the deposit was reworked in what I call "Teri D's way". Teri-ble...

Even though I spoke with the dispatcher on April 5 and 6 and we exchanged e-mails, I was told I not reachable before later in April. Was I abducted by ET's?

Teri Diodati told me she would later review my balance. I called her office many times and was not able to talk with her. I sent Teri Diodati a registered letter and e-mail messages. It seems she is the one who is unreachable...

In summary, I was coerced to pay and additional 30% on top of the original amount. I strongly recommend you not to use Teri Diodati's company, Action Moving, nor their agent, Internic.

Other details will be skipped, to keep this horror story short. Their addresses are as follows:

Hi, I'm just posting here because I referred to this post when I was trying to choose a moving company. I ended up using Emerald too, and I was quite happy with the experience. Everything went smoothly, nothing went wrong, and the guys were perfectly professional and not at all creepy. I was glad to see a real person reviewing Emerald, since their reviews on homestars all look kind of fake.

So did anyone find a mover to recommend? So far my frontrunners are Tom Trucker - but I can't get them , just leave a message and Emerald Moving, but when I call them I also have to leave a message but on a weird answering machine that doesn't say 'Emerald moving' (and I checked the number twice!)

Hmmm, I saw a good comment about Capitalmoving. Well, they're cheap enough by weight, but when we moved from Montreal to Victoria, they broke everything they can possibly break, including those they put in box or wrap with protective blanket. They offered no refund whatsoever for over 800$ worth of furnitures they broke. Hire them at your own risk!

Anyone know anything about AMS transportation out of Peterborough/Toronto area? Moving from Barrie to BC

Also looking at Mountaineer Movers and Tender Touch. The broker for AMS has had a dishonorable mention on this blog, and has had involvement with a much hated mover also mentioned here which he regrets involvement with. Just looking for a little guidance, and want my move to go well so I can come back and praise my mover for your benefit. Thanks!

Your closing sentence was correct. Whenever you can on a short distance move, get a few friends, at least one to stay with the truck to watch your stuff, and do it yourself. Always did in Toronto/GTA, worth taking the day off. I'm planning a long haul to BC for end of May, and wish I could do it myself...

Simple Advise: AVOID Good Ol Boys or Good Ol' Boys, and Country Wide Moving...they are all the same company.

Moving company was booked, failed to show up...had to hunt down the personal # for the clerical worker who booked me the appointment. Was provided a number for a Calgary company who said the Toronto driver's truck broke down. When I asked why we didn't receive a phone call 5 hours earlier - I was given some BS excuse...he tried to call but the line was busy. I have Called ID, Voicemail, and Call Waiting...and I was waiting for a call. The driver calls 2 minutes later...to apologize....now we have to wait 2 to 3 days for someone else to move us. AVOID THIS COMPANY. AVOID AVOID - safe yourself the time and aggravation. Say NO TO GOOD OL BOYS. The quote might be cheap, but is it worth the frustration... I can't imagine if they had actually shipped my furniture and lost it...AVOID

I have heard that some companies are offering a discount rate if you are in no rush to get your furniture. They will call you when they have extra space available in their van. I know someone that got a good deal moving from Montreal to Vancouver by doing that. I am trying to look for companies doing that service from Quebec (well, Montmagny) to Vancouver. Any thoughts?

Also, my furniture is all ready to be shiped as it is in storage in a basement of a friend's home. Anyone shipping their stuff from Quebec City or (Levis) to Vancouver west end? Would sharing a van be a good idea? cheaper? too risky?

I moved three years ago with Toronto Moving Express, which was quite literally a nightmare. I chose them because they quoted a cheaper rate, with three men, and when they arrived, they arrived with two men, a smaller truck, and immediately told me on arrival that the rate they quoted needed to be changed because my boxes were "too heavy", and I had to agree to the higher rate before they could move anything. (I am a smallish unfit woman, and I packed so I could lift all the boxes). At the end, they insisted that we pay in cash, and wouldn't unload until we produced the cash. There was nothing done about the items they lost and damaged. They took two hours longer than they needed, one of which was while I went to get enough cash to get my stuff back.

On the other hand, I had moved three times with ABS Moving, which has always been prompt, efficient, and while their hourly rate is higher than some, it is well worth it--in fact, with all the problems with Toronto Moving Express, they were my most expensive move and my most stressful.

May 22, 2007, 2:09 p.m.

I just moved in Calgary, and used Cowtown Moovers.

I have no complaints, they charged me $85 an hour there was a 3 hour minimum and $60 fuel/travel charge. They only take cash which I questioned.
After seeing them in action for myself, I was happy to pay and tip...
They were quick and carefull, compared to the guys I used last move, which of whom will remane 'nameless'.
They do not have an add in the yellow pages so I will leave their phone number; 283-4220
I got there name from here, then had to search for their number.
Try them , if you dont like them, dont call them again.
Arthur.

We just moved from Whitby, Ontario to downtown Toronto using All Season Movers. When I called to make the reservation they informed me that it would take only 4 hours to move my couple of couches, tv and other small items (small enough to fit into 600 sq foot condo in Toronto)and cost no more than $400-$500 max.

All Season Movers arrived 1.5 hours late and at the time said do not worry we will only charge you from when we actually arrived.

It was not until our furniture was in their truck and we were downtown Toronto facing a time crunch for the elevator that they insisted on charging us 7 hours (including the 1.5 hours of their late time)and would unload the truck until they were fully paid. In addition, they charged us long-distance travel fee of $90 (which they previously confirmed as not being applicable).

The movers themselves were by far the "dumbest and rudest" people I have ever met. One of the movers kept on requesting that my boyfriend help them move things (isn't this the point of hiring movers in the first place?? To avoid the aggrevation of doing it yourself???)

Point being.... never, never, never hire All Season Movers based out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. If you do... I wish you luck and do so at your own risk

I'll be moving soon from Winnipeg to Toronto. I have decided to go with a van line affiliated mover which leaves me with 2 choices : Canada Movers/United Van Lines or Wpg Moving/Allied Van Lines. It's a little expensive but I've bought some expensive things in the past yr.(T.V.,air conditioner and other appliances) that I don't want to get lost or stolen. Does anyone have any experiences with thes companies? (bad or good)
Thanks.

I`m currently using AMJ for a move between Ottawa and New York. They`ve been nothing short of a nightmare. From their liaison officer up to the general manager, it`s been unpleasant and unprofessional. We were sent student packers led by a rogue, unpleasant contractor who argued with my neighbours over blocking the road, walked all over our white carpets without using any covers and broke a few light fixtures. They`ve now indicatd that they won`t be arriving on time in New York (two weeks later) and we`re likely going to have to change our flights to wait for them. The GM, in addition to everyone else I`ve spoken to there, makes me feel that this is a rogue operation. I have no idea how they`ve become so big and widely used other than perhaps that they undercut costs by outsourcing all the moving and packing to unprofessional movers. I`d recommend going with a smaller company where you might have more control over who shows up at your house and where your business is actually valued. These guys act like a mob operation.

Another testimonial for Tom Trucker. I moved a couple of days ago, and it worked out great. They were affordable, flexible, reliable, friendly and respectful of goods and property.
I had booked a 25′ van, but they called a couple of days before the move and said they didn’t have one available. Offered me two 16′ vans and four guys rather than three for a slight increase in cost. They ended up sending five guys for the same price. Showed up right on schedule, worked hard, blanketed and shrink-wrapped everything that needed it, wore shoe protectors inside the house, asked all the right questions on loading and unloading. Highly recommended.

P.S. I just posted a similar testimonial on another site, so if you see them both and are wondering if this might be viral marketing, it's not - I'm a genuinely satisfied customer.

We moved a large household of stuff from England to London Ontario two years ago and were very pleased with the whole process. The English movers, John Mason, were excellent. The local movers who handled our shipment from Montreal to London were McWilliams who also were very good.

We are now planning a local move within London and looking for a reputable mover. We were going to go with Two Guys but after reading all the negative reviews about them, will definitely not be using them. Can anyone recommend a good London ON mover?

Do not choose I MOVE CANADA for your move. They were one of the moving companies I found under Move.ca. They have a fabulous web site but that's all. The company representative I dealt with the day of move was RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL and the movers were SLOW. My move was on a Saturday in Toronto, from a 1 bedroom apartment to another 1 bedroom apartment right across the street. It took the movers 9 hours to load the truck, drive it across the street and unload it again!!!!!! It took me less time a number of years ago to move from Burlington to Toronto! To start off with the movers were 2 hours late. The representative from the company did call me and later showed up to wait for the movers. The story was that a mover got injured at their base moving something and being a Saturday it was difficult getting another mover. Perhaps?! The movers finally arrived. Not the professional ones I expected but 2 fellows ( I won’t say what nationality),one which could barely speak English. Although the paperwork I had said I could pay by credit card the movers wanted to collect cash payment and got very upset when they learned I would be paying by credit card. They called their office and I spoke to the same representative who had come to wait for the movers. The representative was not polite nor courteous as the website says but rude and even hung up during the phone conversation. The rep was insistent to know that there would be money in my account because they were going to cash the check right away. The movers in the meantime sat in the truck with my furniture and were not about to budge until they had cheque in hand. I cannot write everything that was said but sufficient to say that the representative has no clue how weekend banking works! I finally gave the movers a cheque for the amount and my furniture started to arrive again. The clincher that I did not choose a reputable moving company was when I got a call from Money Mart to see if there was money in my account so they could cash the cheque I gave. I have since sent an email to the Vice President with whom I had arranged the move to advise him of some damages made by the movers and to ask what had happened to the summer incentive of Bonus Air Miles I was to receive. I have yet to receive a reply. My move was not worry free nor am I a 100% satisfied customer.

Moving Nightmare...in my personal experience with Two Small Men with Big Hearts Moving out of Toronto, Ontario.
I moved from Hamilton to Charlottetown and was expecting the movers to be there on date agreed upon. It has now been one month and I have nothing! I am pursuing legal action. I have filed complaints with government, etc. Have tried numerous times to get answers from the company. This company has many franchise operations across Canada...which I contacted also...no one will help. I would say stay away from this company at all costs!!
If you have had a experience with this company please contact me personally...its time to stop these people!

I just moved from New Westminster to West Vancouver and experienced the "Move from Hell" with Euro-Star Moving, they are located in Vancouver and Toronto. I had booked my move approx. 3 weeks prior and the appointment was made for 9.00 am on a Friday. Since I was a returning customer (I moved last year from Toronto to New West with them) I was given a "discount". Anyway, it turned out they called me the same morning and told me that 1 of their trucks broke down, if they could come in the afternoon instead, ie. 3.00 pm. They eventually showed up at 4.40 pm - they were rude and very unprofessional! 1 guy did all the work, while the other (the younger one) was sitting around. I had to also help them, otherwise it would have taken them 2 extra hours for sure! After everything was unloaded at my new place, they argued with me about the time, etc. I asked for at least $80 off for all my aggravation - they were willing to give me $40 (what a joke!). For sure this was a lesson for me, they definitely have lost a customer and many more! I am still recouperating from this nightmare....

I have taken the time to read through most of the comments, and the one thing I know most of them have in common are that the clients want 5 star service at rock bottom prices. If you only look at the 60 cents a pound/or an under estimated move what do you expect to get. I currently work as an independent moving broker and I hear it all the time. Companies like Two Small Men or Good Ol Boys work the same way, promise you cheap rates for long distance (price per pound) or very inexpensive hourly rates. They then pad the bill by taking a long, long time to do your local move, sometimes by sending a partial crew instead of a full one, or in the case of long distance if it is a small load that has been under priced so maybe only one guy will show up to load it or it will go into a warehouse till they have a full truck. Honestly people, do you really think that they are going to rush your load from Vancouver to Toronto that they estimated at 60 cents a pound for a total of 1000 dollars, including taxes. It takes 7 to 21 days for a long distance move. Movers cannot guarantee you rush delivery unless you pay for it. An average moving vehicle holds 30,000 pounds. even at 60 cents a pound that is a lot of money! As long as you, the consumer, only looks at the price or weight (that you know in your heart that is to good to be true) these scammers will live well and prosper off you. As a moving broker I deal with a lot of reputable movers and I hear about all the scammers as well. Check with the B.B.B. the company doesn't have to be a member to have information and complaints registered. Another thing you should be aware of is that most moving companies, except for the very large chains, subcontract out a lot if not all of their moves. The company I used to work at subcontracted out all their long distance moves.
While you are checking out movers on line look up who owns the domain . You will be surprised to find that many companies are all owned by one person, so how honest are the quotes you are receiving? For example when I looked up the owner of the independent movers federation the owner is listed as a Leland Nelson, the same owner of Good Ol Boys Moving, Grand River Moving, countrywide van lines, etc...who knows? Anyway that is my two cents hope it helps some one out there....knowledge is key

My company used All Season Movers for a move from Milton to Oakville, Ontario. They worked quickly and efficiently and they helped us out quite a bit when it came to rates and bins for our things. I also used them for a personal move and they were just as good then, if not b
