Please pull the iron wool over my eyes

You know, as the unlucky winner of a rather annoying eye condition, sometimes I really wish one could just pop their eyes out, drop them in some nice warm water and give them a really good scrubbing.

(Now that I think of it, this would probably be a great ability to have with one’s brain, too. Just wash them black and moldy thoughts away with some soothing. emotional soap suds.)

I’m in dire need of an eyeglass perscription update - staring at a computer screen all day (even one as good as this) tends to make one bug-eyed even if they’ve the benefit of 20/20 vision. I’m seriously thinking of getting a set (my first) of contacts - any eyeglass wears have any comments on the pros / cons of contacts?

For the record, my perscription is really high: -10.25 in the right, -11.0 in the left. For all intensive purposes I’m blind as a bat. I’ve heard that contacts afford high perscription wearers better vision because they reduce the amount of optical distortion you get with the high indexes. Either way, it’s expensive and a real pain in the ass. Maybe I should just get the laser surgery and be done with it…

contacts are awesome. it's like having your eyes back, no frames to look out of. i've had them since i was 16 and have had no problems whatsoever. the cons: cleaning and caring for them..and the occassional irritation - like if some bit of dust gets in there or whatever.

Contacts really are wonderful things. As Mea said, caring for them is a bizznitch, but it's definitely worth it. Glasses are fun, too, though, and I tend to wear them just 'cause they're trendy nowadays. Slave to fashion, me.

You can get the disposable contacts. They are about $20 for a box. One prescriptioned box contains six non-colored lenses. In your case, you will have to get two boxes for each prescription. The suggested time usage for a pair is two weeks. The key word being "suggested. But they last longer than that. Theoretically, six pairs will last 6-7 months. They even have the new Acuvue 2 contact lenses for the same price. I can hardly feel them. Some people can't wear them though. It all depends on the eye doctor.

Glasses are good to have around just in case. For example, I take my contacts off for the night. I will have to put them back in if I want to go anywhere, such as the bathroom or pick someone up real fast. Also, eyes need to breath. Contact lenses decrease the amount of air coming to your eyes. That is where the glasses comes in handy again. Wear them everyone once in a while to let your eyes breath.

peace,
Aymer

Contacts bring great happiness to my life -- no glares, no trying to ignore the blurry area around the lenses, no bumping into people's faces when you kiss them. I've had contact lenses since I was 16, and I don't have a bad word to say about them.

feh. hotsexy eyeglasses are where it's at. Rule of thumb: eyeglasses are like wedding rings, it's basically impossible to spend too much on the right one.

You want to know something sad? I had to get my girlfriend to take a photo of me with my glasses off. I've worn glasses ever since I was 5; I had no way of fathoming what I looked like without them. I'm so used to glasses I look... naked without them. I still think I'm gonna go for it - the disposable ones for a short trial, at least. Thanks for the opinions.

i wouldn't recommend laser surgery, at least not yet... there's too many people who don't really know what they're doing when they're performing the operation, plus it can cause loss of night vision.

I'd really, really love to take my lungs out and give them a thorough cleansing. After 8 years of smoking, I think it's high time...
