Best albums I purchased in 2001

A little bit late, but here’s the list of the best albums I purchased in 2001. Not in any particular order, mind you, and again, this list is open to albums released in years other than 2001. Just like my list of the best ten books I read in 2001.

Ahem:

  1. The Pernice Brothers: The World Won’t End
  2. Mark Kozelek: What’s Next to the Moon
  3. Ryan Adams: Heartbreaker (and yes, not the more recent Gold. which I think is kind of stinky and over-produced.)
  4. Sparklehorse: it’s a wonderful life
  5. Femi Kuti: Fight to Win
  6. White Stripes: White Blood Cells
  7. Elvis Costello w/ Burt Bacharach: Painted from Memory
  8. Archer Prewitt: Gerroa Songs
  9. Björk: Vespertine
  10. Neko Case & Her Boyfriends: Furnace Room Lullaby
  11. The Olivia Tremor Control: Music from the unrealized film script Dusk at Cubist Castle
  12. The Strokes: Is This It

How about you? Please, share even a couple of the albums you bought last year that you liked, if only to give me another reason to spend some more money. As if I needed a reason.

My list is pretty similar, but also has Reigning Sound's "Break Up, Break Down," Guided By Voices' "Isolation Drills," and Wilco's "Yankee Hotel Foxtrott," which I didn't buy, exactly, as it wasn't out, but I sure as hell downloaded and enjoyed the heck out of.

That's cool. I was toying with putting Isolation Drills on there - best (er, that should say "most consistent") thing Pollard's done since Under the bushes, Under the stars in my opinion. I'll have to find that Wilco album (though Summerteeth was good, but slightly disappointing)... and never heard of that first band.

Excellent. Something I can sink my teeth into here. It's a hard one as I've been slightly unpleased with music this year. Anyway, I'd say Elbow "Asleep In The Back", The Doves "Lost Souls", Roger Eno "The Music Of Neglected English Composers", Travis "Invisible Band", Starsailor "Love Is Here", Faithless "Outrospective", Zero 7 "Simple Things", The Divine Comedy "Regeneration", Grandaddy "The Sophtware Slump" just to name a few. I know there are more...but I could go on...and on...and on...

So, how many of those bands are British, Trev? Hmm?
